People looking for work, volunteering opportunities or training options across the far north can meet industry representatives at a unique event.

The Caithness Jobs and How to Get Them event takes place next weekend in Thurso and is described by organisers as "more than just a jobs fair".

The event, which is back for the first time since 2020, will offer those attending the opportunity to learn about current vacancies, skills required for future careers, training opportunities, and support for apprenticeships.

Nicola Innes, Developing the Young Workforce North Highlands lead, said: “After a long break, we are delighted to announce the return of Caithness Jobs and How to Get Them. This event is open to everyone – school and college leavers, jobseekers, unemployed, and employed. There will be over 44 exhibitors offering the opportunity to learn about vacancies, apprenticeships, access to training and much more.

"If you are considering a career change, actively seeking work or volunteering opportunities, interested in college courses or apprenticeships, come along, meet, and talk with multiple industry representatives who can assist you.

"There will be representation from both local and national employers representing a variety workplaces and career pathways. The event will offer a unique opportunity to meet real employers and hear first-hand about their industries and any vacancies they currently have.”

This year, as part of the Scottish Partnership Recruitment Campaign, the Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA) will be in attendance to provide information on funding, training and support available for those interested in becoming a childminder. They offer a package of fully-funded support and training to those interested in establishing their own childminding business in Caithness and Sutherland.

The event is led by Caithness Chamber of Commerce’s Developing the Young Workforce North Highland (DYWNH) initiative in partnership with Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Jobcentre Plus, North Highland College UHI, Skills Development Scotland, and Highland Council.

It takes place on Saturday, March 11 from 10am-2pm in the UHI North Highland ETEC building at Thurso.
