Carol Grant, president of Latheron SWI, welcomed members along with two guests to the group's April meeting.

Mrs Grant gave an update on the east of Caithness bulb show in which Latheron had done very well. She also attended the federation meeting which had a talk from Gordon Reid, archivist at the nuclear archive in Wick.

At the meeting it was decided to continue with the quiz and make it an annual event. There will be a bowling taster session in Bower Hall on May 25 at 1pm.

Ideas for the 2024 county show schedule were requested by the show committee.

Mrs Grant then introduced Kenneth McElroy from the Caithness Broch Project. He explained how the idea to build a broch came after Iain Maclean and himself got together in 2013 and set up a Facebook page.

The group has steadily grown and been supported widely. Their key aim to construct a broch is to promote experimental archaeology, support traditional skills and be a major tourist attraction.

The project is progressing and they are now down to two sites in Caithness in mind for the broch. Mrs Grant thanked Kenneth for his very interesting talk.

Members enjoyed a lovely tea served by hostesses Carol Grant and Magi Sinclair.
