Caithness brain injury charity makes headway
MAKING and selling greeting cards turned out to be a profitable fundraiser for two Caithness ladies.
Local support group Headway Highland – formed by volunteers to help those with brain injuries – has once again reaped the benefits of the selfless efforts of Haster’s Betty Mackay and Irene McKain.
Betty’s grandson Kyle suffered a brain injury over three years ago which inspired her and friend Irene to make and sell greetings cards and fundraise for the Caithness group, a satellite of the Inverness-based Headway Highland – itself part of the UK-wide organisation.
The Caithness branch recently received a kind donation of £460 from the two women.
A Headway Highland Caithness representative said the charity is very grateful for the pair’s ongoing support which last year included a donation of nearly £1000.

The local group was formed by volunteers to reduce isolation and provide information and support to brain injury survivors, their families, carers and friends.
To promote the group and raise awareness of brain injury, it is having a launch event on Saturday at Pulteneytown Parish Church Hall, Argyle Square, Wick, from 12pm to 4pm.
Guest speakers include rehabilitation consultant Dr Barbara Chandler, and neuro-psychologist Dr Louise Blackmore.
Refreshments, music, and information will be available at the open event.
