A BUTANE cylinder, which went on fire outside Thurso High School on Thursday afternoon, took about an hour to get under control.

Two fire crews from Thurso and police officers attended the incident which was reported at 4.18pm.

A spokeswoman for the fire and rescue service in Inverness said the fire was brought under control at 5.21pm.

It is believed workmen had been carrying out work at the school at the time.

A high-pressure hose was used as was a thermal imaging camera to ensure the cylinder had cooled sufficiently before it was removed.
