Wick Lifeboat came to the rescue of a vessel 700-miles from home near Poole in Dorset.

The boat was heading on a 700-mile journey to the all-weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole for a major refit when it was called on to assist the local coastguard.

A spokesman for Wick lifeboat said: “Whilst entering Poole Harbour the lifeboat came across a broken down speedboat in the swash channel with three persons on board."

The crew on board then contacted UK coastguard who said they were happy for them to tow the stricken vessel to their destination – the Port of Poole Marina.

"With the casualty vessel now started the lifeboat headed off to their berth in Cobb's Quay Marina and the coastguard mobile continued on their patrol.”
