Fire crews rushed out to Thrumster this afternoon as two buses caught fire.

The blaze broke out at Thrumster garage which caused the A99 in both directions to be closed for more than an hour.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service personnel arrived at the scene and were able to put the fire out.

It is not known how the blaze started but no members of the public came to any harm.

Station manager James Donaldson said: "The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 2.37pm on Wednesday, June 5, to reports of a fire at a business premise at A99, near Wick.

"Operations control mobilised two appliances to the scene where firefighters extinguished a fire involving two buses.

"There were no injuries. Crews left after ensuring the area was made safe."

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "We can confirm the outbreak of a fire at Thrumster.

"The A99 road was closed in both directions from 2.40pm and was fully reopened at 3.50pm. We await the fire team's report before commenting further."
