Bulbs on show at East of Caithness SWI event in Wick

THIS year's East of Caithness SWI bulb show in Wick was opened by Islay MacLeod of Thrumster House. She also presented the winners with their trophies and was thanked by Carol Grant.

In charge of the bulb judging were Liffy Ross and her husband John, while the handicrafts and baking were judged by Amy Walker and Liz MacDonald.

The show was held on Saturday at the Assembly Rooms.

Bulbs

Seniors – Ten crocus, any variety: Margaret Murray, Killimster. Three hyacinths in earth, Miss Saigon: Sheila Macleod, Lybster. Two hyacinths, Pink Surprise: Carol Grant, Latheron. Four daffodils, Arkle: S Macleod, Lybster. Four narcissi, Pyjama Party: M Manson, Thrumster. Four double tulips, Verona: C Grant, Latheron. Amaryllis, any variety: M Murray, Killimster. Four single tulips, any variety: M Manson, Thrumster. Ten dwarf narcissi, Jetfire: Kathleen Baikie, Thrumster. Ten dwarf tulips, Heart's Delight: C Grant, Latheron.

Juniors – Two hyacinths, any variety: Erin Moore, Lybster. Five dwarf tulips, any variety: Mirissa Efemey, Killimster.

Handicrafts, baking and floral art

Seniors – Four maids of honour: C Grant, Latheron. Baby's hooded jacket: Jeanette Coghill, Killimster. Sewn cushion cover: Lynn Hendry, Latheron. Floral art – Spring flower arrangement depicting a song title: C Grant, Latheron.

Juniors – Easter sponge: Iona Simpson, Killimster. String art item: M Efemey, Killimster.

Trophies – Institute with 16-25 members: Thrumster. Institute with 15 members or fewer: Lybster.

Best exhibit in bulbs: C Grant, Latheron (two hyacinths). Most points in bulbs: M Murray, Killimster.

Best three hyacinths in earth and best four daffodils: S Macleod, Lybster. Best four tulips: M Manson, Thrumster.

Best exhibit in crocuses and best exhibit in amaryllis: M Murray, Killimster. Best two hyacinths: C Grant, Latheron.

Most points in bulbs, floral art, handicrafts and baking: C Grant, Latheron. Most points in handicrafts: J Coghill, L Hendry and M Manson (shared).

Juniors – Most points in bulb show: M Efemey and I Simpson, both Killimster. Most points in handicrafts and baking: I Simpson and M Efemey.
