EVEN those in Dragons’ Den couldn’t match a bunch of local Brownies for shrewd investments – for they raised over £1000 for the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity, all from a stake of just £5 each.

The 1st Lybster Brownies handed over a cheque for £1050 to Natalie Marshall, of the local fundraising committee for CLIC Sargent. The youngsters raised the money by each investing £5 in a different venture.

Some bought baking ingredients and baked cakes, one bought a teddy and had a guess-the-birthday competition.

Another bought sweets, filled a jar and had a guess-how-many-sweets competition, some made fudge and tablet, some made jewellery and some made cards.

One even bought a bucket and sponge and washed cars and windows.

The venture also counted towards a badge to make people more aware of childhood leukaemia and how to help and support those who have it.

Natalie said the committee is delighted to have received such a kind donation from the hard-working Brownies.

"We’re very grateful for it, especially as they all put in so much work towards it," she said. "With just £5 they got to turn it into more money.

"I thought it was brilliant that they managed to come up with so many good ideas for it."
