Brough violinist Matthew Fields leads string quartet
Brough musician Matthew Fields will perform at Thurso High.
SIX talented young musicians from St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh will stage a concert at Thurso High tomorrow (Tuesday) night.
Organised by North Highland Connections, the event will start at 7.30pm.
The performers, who are all senior pupils of Scotland’s specialist music school, will play a programme of music for piano trio, string quartet and solo instruments by Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Prokofiev, Debussy and Bartok, as well as traditional Scottish music.
The string quartet is led by local violinist Matthew Fields, from Brough. Matthew is in his final year at St Mary’s Music School and has recently been performing with some of the most highly regarded string players in Europe as the Scottish Ensemble’s young artist – a position created specially for him.

Mairi Chaimbeul, from Skye, will play clarsach. She has enjoyed success in both BBC Radio Scotland’s young-traditional-musician-of-the-year and young-jazz-musician-of-the-year competitions and is a regular prizewinner at the Royal National Mod.
Matthew and Mairi will be joined in the concerts by Sarah Park on piano, Kirsty Main on violin, Phoebe Rees on viola and Arend Koeditz on cello.
Tickets are priced £8 (£6 for concessions). Further information is available by telephoning 07521077053.
