Broken leg delays trial of Orkney man in Wick

An Orkney man's trial on a series of charges couldn't be fixed at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday as a key police witness is recovering from a broken leg sustained in the line of duty.

Eric Page (31) denies theft of a car, possession of knives and cocaine and failing to provide police with a sample as a drug-driving suspect.

The offences are alleged to have occurred in Kirkwall, on the ferry from Gills Bay to St Margaret's Hope, and at Wick Police Station, between June 5 and 7, last year.

The case was continued to May 14 for a progress report on the police officer.

Page, of Bosquoy Road, Kirkwall, has retained solicitor Fiona MacDonald to fight his case.
