Lesley Riddoch, one of Scotland’s best-known commentators and broadcasters, will be hosting a talk in Wick as part of a book tour.

"Basically the event is organised by Yes Caithness and it's the last on a 20-leg tour for my latest book, Thrive," said Lesley.

In her book, she makes an impassioned call to action, weaving academic evidence with story, international comparison and anecdote to explain why Scotland is ready to "step forward as the world’s newest state". Summarising Thrive, Lesley says: "Scotland is a former state with its own laws, education, universities, languages, welfare system, history and hang-ups – in short, another country.

"And the British Isles will work better together when Scotland is governed by the folk who call it home."

The award-winning broadcaster, journalist, author, and land reform campaigner also has family connections with Wick – her mother hailed from the town and her aunt still lives there. Lesley writes a weekly column for The Scotsman and The National and is a regular contributor to the Guardian, Scotland Tonight, BBC Question Time and Any Questions.

Local musician Addy Harper will provide music at the event.
