First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is set to resign after more than eight years in the role.

The Scottish National Party leader is expected to make the announcement at a news conference in Edinburgh.

There is no word on when she will leave office after being under increasing pressure in recent months.

Ms Sturgeon has been first minister since November 2014 after succeeding Alex Salmond when he resigned after the independence referendum.
