Caithness entertainer Brandon McPhee is set to bring his distinctive brand of country music to an American TV audience.

The video for the single Walking on the Waves, which Brandon recorded with veteran Irish musical duo Foster and Allen, has been selected to be featured on the Heartland digital network which broadcasts from Tennessee.

Heartland is available in more than 40 million households across the USA and Wick-based Brandon (24) has been told that the song will be played between four and six times a week.

"I am absolutely delighted to have my music played on such a large scale over in the USA," Brandon said. "I would love to tour there some day and bring our Scottish music and all the different music genres we perform to every part of the world we can."

He joked: "I am over the moon – or is the new saying 'over Mars'?"

Brandon added: "Foster and Allen have always been two of my musical heroes. The experience was surreal and I could have never imagined knowing them, being great friends and colleagues and getting the chance to record this song and then the music video in their studio, Roseland Studios, in Moate, Ireland. I am very lucky."

Brandon records for local label Pan Records, based at Tannach.

Pan Records' Robert Cameron said: "We consider this a great achievement for a 24-year-old from the north of Scotland."

Walking on the Waves is a cover of a Skipinnish song written by Robert Robertson and Angus McPhail and it has been a big hit with country fans.

Brandon and his band are releasing a CD collection of Irish tunes next month, ahead of St Patrick's Day. They will also be performing an online concert on St Patrick's Day itself, March 17.
