Brandon 'incredibly proud' as grandad's accordion video becomes a social media hit
Caithness entertainer Brandon McPhee says he is "incredibly proud" of his accordion-playing grandad who has become a social media hit and will be featuring on TV.
Donald McPhee Snr (68) has recorded a video for Caithness Music's Brandon McPhee Hour in which he plays a medley of tunes – When You and I Were Young, Maggie, followed by Red River Valley and Lord Lovat’s Lament.
The video has had well over 16,000 views so far on social media.
Donald started playing the accordion at 50, and is self-taught. In his younger days he played the bagpipes.
Brandon (24) presents his programme on Spotlight TV (Sky 365, Freesat 516). It goes out on Thursday at 4pm and Wednesday at 3pm.
"I am incredibly proud of my grandad," Brandon said. "He introduced me to the button accordion at the age of 10 and taught me my first tunes on it.

"He recorded a few videos for the programme five years ago when it was called Caithness Music TV, and I'm really pleased he has recorded two new ones with his Hohner Shand Morino accordion.
"One is himself and the other is with the two of us. They will be both featured on the programme.
"I’ve always felt a special connection with him, not just through family but especially with playing the accordion."
Donald said: “I am delighted that so many people have enjoyed my video. I play the accordion for my own enjoyment and I’m so glad that others have enjoyed it too.
"I never imagined that people from all around the world would see me playing my accordion. I’m just so pleased. Thank you to Pan Records for giving me this opportunity."
Meanwhile, Brandon features among the top 40 singles in the latest Joyce Ramgatie Country Music Chart. He is at number seven with The Rose of Aberdeen.
