Bower Young Farmers recognised for speechmaking at Orkney event

North Competitions Weekend held in Orkney saw speechmaking accolades for two members of Bower Young Farmers.

John Forbes and Beth Douglas from Bower won awards for 'Best panel member outwith winning team' and 'Best panel member outwith winning team' respectively.

The curtain was lifted on the North Competitions Weekend on Saturday, November 4 at Papdale Primary School, kindly sponsored by Orkney Renewables.

The Bower Young Farmers junior team – chairperson Danielle Sinclair, speaker Charlotte Gillon and vote of thanks Adelle Swanson – failed to win but scored an impressive 75 points with their topic was ‘What has happened to the crisp?’.

The seniors followed with two teams from Bower and two teams from Harray YF competing for the top title. After much deliberation Harray A and Harray B were placed first equal with 149 out of a possible 180 and coming in third was Bower A Team comprising of chairperson, John Forbes along with panel members Beth Douglas, William Campbell and Stephen Dunnett who scored 146 points.

Best chairperson outwith winning team went to John Forbes of Bower with 45 points out of a possible 60. Best panel member outwith winning team was awarded to Bower member, Beth Douglas with an impressive 39 points out of 40.

The following day was filled with sporting activities but the Caithness teams were beaten into third places in hockey and football.
