Tesco stepped in to help local school pupils keen to boost their reading range recently.

Allan and Chantelle from Bower Primary School's pupil council sent letters to local businesses asking for donations for their ‘Accelerated Reading Shop.’

Everyone was then blown away by the amount donated by Wick's Tesco supermarket.

A spokesperson for the school said: "Karen Center and her staff were so generous and efficient collecting items for us. We are hugely grateful to them.

"Pupils gain points for reading books and then get to turn their points into prizes."

Head teacher Mrs Sinclair said: "I could not believe the generosity of the community team in Wick Tesco. This is such a boost to our reading scheme and pupils.

"The children are so eager to read their books and ‘spend’ their points at the shop."
