The drive is being mounted by Liam Clancy, the council’s community support officer in Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross.

Speaking at Wednesday’s meeting of the Association of Caithness Community Councils, he said: “Bower Community Council is currently in abeyance and I’m going to be at the show to gauge interest in reviving it.”

Mr Clancy said that 20 people petitioning Highland Council would trigger the process to organise a new election.
