A Wick man who broke an empty bottle over a bar customer's head was ordered to pay him compensation of £300.

Fish factory worker Shaun Connor (24) admitted the assault at the Valhalla nightspot in the town, early on January 8 last year.

Wick Sheriff Court heard that a verbal altercation led to Connor grabbing the bottle from the bar and striking another man on the head.

The blow inflicted a small cut resulting in a "slight bleed" said Fiscal Depute, Grant McLennan.

Connor, of Macrae Street, Wick, also punched the same man as stewards were trying to get him out of the premises.

The accused had left the bar by the time police officers arrived but he was traced and made no response when cautioned and charged.
