Bill Fernie (independent)
MY previous experience of the government sector was in education and tax departments. I am currently self-employed part-time running the Caithness.org community website.
I use my experience to help benefit the people and organisations of Caithness partly by volunteering, including previously the school board, Wick Gala, community care and a housing trust. Currently my voluntary work includes being chairman
In these difficult economic times we need to be smarter to get more out of how we spend money – maximising investment in Wick to create new facilities and create jobs with three new schools, new community library, new swimming pool, new council offices and a new children’s home.
Independent councillors are not bound by political-party dogma and have lots of ideas, and I will try to keep them coming if re-elected. As chairman of education I have overseen the savings of over £1 million annually in running costs of our leisure services by the setting up of a trust with almost no changes to service.
I am confident Wick has a good future and I will work to make it happen.
