Local artist Beth Nicolson has raised more than £400 for the project to turn the historic mill at John O'Groats into a community hub and visitor attraction.

Beth (18), who lives at Staxigoe, created a snowy night painting of the mill complex and raffled it in aid of the John O'Groats Mill Trust.

The draw was made on Sunday and the lucky winner of the painting was Gordie Begg.

The raffle raised a total of £422. Beth, a sixth-year pupil at Wick High School, thanked everyone for entering.

She did the A3-size painting in the October holidays, using acrylics.

The chairman of the mill trust, Rognvald Brown, said: "We are indebted to Beth. She organised this entirely herself and deserves a lot of credit."
