A YOUNG man has been sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment for committing a string of offences while drunk in Lybster last year.

At Wick Sheriff Court on Monday, Angus Cormack (26), a prisoner at Low Moss, near Glasgow, appeared from custody following a disturbance he caused on November 13 at the Bayview Hotel.

Cormack admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and refusing to leave the bar, then demanding entry, banging on the doors and windows, striking a table in the bar with a knife, threatening to smash up the bar, threatening to punch the people in the bar, pushing past Caroline Isaac and smashing glasses and other household objects.

Senior fiscal depute David Barclay told the court Cormack was very drunk and in an emotional state when he entered the bar, making comments that he deeply missed his friend Stefan Sutherland, who died last September.

Solicitor Laura-Jane Macnaughton said Cormack’s family tried to get him out of the pub and out of trouble, but the death of Stefan had been a big blow to him.

Cormack was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, backdated to November 15 of last year.
