BABCOCK International has officially marked the opening of its new pensions office at the Forss Science and Technology Park.

John Thurso MP had the honour of declaring the new base open on Wednesday before an audience of local stakeholders and customers.

Babcock made the decision to move its pensions operation to new premises to facilitate the growth of the business as it continues to diversify into new contracts in other areas, including the private sector.

The move ensures the skilled workforce has a modern and suitable workspace from which to retain its position as the leading public-sector pension administration business in the UK.

Senior Babcock executive Richard Stoneham said: "I am pleased that we have been able to move staff into a more suitable facility, to provide a better and more professional working environment and to give us a solid platform to grow and expand the business."

John Thurso added: "This move signals an important commitment to the area from one of our most successful and growing local businesses. The continued success of the pension administration business here serves as an example of how we can attract and grow leading business services companies in Caithness, creating skilled and sustainable jobs in the region."
