THE North Highland Cancer Information and Support Centre in Thurso has just picked up the Macmillan quality environment mark for the service it provides.

Macmillan chief executive officer Ciaran Devane travelled north to present the award – only the 15th to be handed out in Scotland.

Present at the ceremony was far north MP John Thurso who has supported the voluntary organisation since it opened its centre in May 2008.

He is seen here as Mr Devane presents the award to chairman Jennifer Ironside.

Mrs Ironside spoke of the commitment and dedication of the volunteers which has made the centre the success it is.

She said: "Work towards gaining the award has made us look much closer at the service we provide and over the past year we have worked hard at fine-tuning much of what was already in place."
