Wispy early-morning fog swirls around Wick, giving an ethereal look to the town as pale winter sunlight illuminates the countryside beyond and the distant hills to the south and west.

The atmospheric picture was captured recently by local man Willie Watt using his drone.

"I thought it was a moody kind of photo, with the fog in the foreground while over the hills it was so sharp," Willie said.

"You can see Scaraben, Maiden Pap and Smean, and I'm pretty sure to the right of Ben Griam Mor and Ben Griam Beg you can see the lump of Ben Loyal and possibly Ben Hope in the background.

"It was a morning when the air temperature was so low and the sea temperature must have been reasonably higher. It was changing by the minute."
