A new funding award will allow a range of activities to be delivered in Caithness to bring people together following Covid-19.

Thurso Community Development Trust (TCDT) will be working with organisations and communities around the county after receiving the support from the Communities Recovery Fund.

An "asset bank" of event and activity materials will be created.

TCDT activities co-ordinators Zoe Mackenzie and Richard Hogg are keen to hear from people in villages and other communities across Caithness to find out what activities and events they would like to see happening in their area.

“Bringing people back together with some brilliant activities will greatly improve mental and physical wellbeing," Zoe said. "Having the asset bank will be fantastic in helping community groups to host events and activities.”

They say they have plenty of ideas, from baby yoga and tai chi to growing workshops and pop-up food events, but want to know what groups would like to see in their areas.

"Thanks to the funding for this project, we are looking to purchase equipment and materials for the asset bank which can be shared across the county," Zoe said.

"This could be anything from health and safety equipment and cleaning supplies to marquees and crafting essentials like sewing machines. We want to hear from community members who want to plan an event or activity who need support or materials to make that happen."

Richard added: "We would also like community groups and village halls to get in touch if they have equipment and materials that could be added to the asset bank.

“We are creating a list of items, along with contact details, so that groups who want to borrow something for an event know who to get in touch with to check availability and arrange to use.”

TCDT is one of the partners in the Caithness Resilience Partnership, which is running the project until March 2022. The partnership says it is looking forward to seeing the positive impact it can have on rural communities.

Anyone who is involved in a community group, village hall or community council, or who lives in a Caithness village, and has ideas or suggestions or needs support, is asked to contact Zoe or Richard by email at zoe@thursocdt.co.uk or richard@thursocdt.co.uk or call the TCDT office on 01847 867310.
