Police say they will use the power to seize vehicles when appropriate.

A driver has had his car seized and been charged with careless driving after police twice saw him driving in an anti-social manner on the A9.

Police Scotland said that on December 29, the motorist was stopped in Thurso and issued with a warning notice in relation to the anti-social and careless nature of his driving on the A9 between Thurso and Scrabster.

On Friday, January 14, the same motorist was seen by officers again to be driving in a similar manner on the same stretch of road.

Following the earlier warning notice, that gave police the power to seize the driver's vehicle. This applies within 12 months of the notice being issued and means that if the same motorist or vehicle is seen to be driving in similar manner within the next 12 months, then the vehicle can be seized.

A police spokesman for the Highlands and Islands Division said: "We often receive concerns about the manner of some people's driving and, in instances where that driving falls far below the standards expected from the public, we will use this legislation to help deter people from driving that way. If they continue to do so, we will look to make the roads safer by taking their vehicles away from them."
