Anniversary fundraising will help upgrade Caithness General Hospital
FUNDRAISING initiatives are being planned to help Caithness General hospital in Wick upgrade its daycare area.
The plan – part of the hospital’s 25th anniversary commemorations – will involve a fête on August 13.
“A lot of our staff are planning to have stalls at this event for our own fundraising. Others are going to have a stall
table and will donate some of their takings to the hospital and fund raise for their own charities too,” said Pauline Craw, North Highland Community Health Partnership locality manager.
A ball for staff and their partners in the town’s Assembly Rooms is also being scheduled to take place on November 19.

Mrs Craw pointed out that the hospital provides an area where patients can have chemotherapy instead of travelling down to Raigmore in Inverness. It also caters for cataract surgery and endoscopy.
“Many more services are now done on a day case basis. We have evolved and managed to keep placing new services into the area. If we had a refurbishment, we would be able to deliver services more effectively and in areas more conducive to patient care,” said Mrs Craw.
The other areas which would benefit from upgrading would be echocardiography, pre-operative assessment, medical procedures requiring only day-case time, urology and urodynamics.
“This is potentially quite an exciting time if we manage to do this but as yet we do not have all the costings. While some money has already been set aside for this upgrade if we fundraise we would be able to do much more,” she stated.
