Animal charity applauds 'paw-some supporters'

CAITHNESS animal lovers have helped their favourite charity by raising money for it over the summer.

Louise Norburn and her daughter Cerys made special rainbow badges during lockdown that they sold to raise money for Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

They raised £200 which Cerys handed over to Christine Urquhart, manager at the Scottish SPCA's Caithness and Sutherland Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Balmore.

Laura Budge of Halkirk held a raffle and the £160 raised was donated to the Balmore centre too.

She handed over a cheque recently to the assistant manager at Balmore, Mandy McIntyre.

A spokesperson for the charity said it wouldn't be able to help Scotland's animals without these "paw-some supporters".

She added: "Coronavirus has been difficult for everyone. Our unique National Wildlife Rescue Centre is facing particular challenges.

"There have been large numbers of wildlife casualties this year and our centre is operating at twice the capacity it was built for."
