Its all go again at the Thurso vet practice in the latest episode of the hit TV programme –The Highland Vet.

Among the patients coming under the spotlight tomorrow night will be a rather unusual one – a local farmer has taken in a baby otter found alone and freezing in one of his fields.

Vet Eilidh Macdonald has a fight on her hands to save the youngster which begins its recuperation in one of the heated pens in the large animal wing of the mixed vet practice run by the dedicated team at DS McGregor and Partners.

Practice director Ken Wilson is on night duty and needs to respond to an emergency away from the practice when a Simmental cow gets into difficulty whilst calving. Her calf is stuck in an unusual position and Ken fears the cow’s uterus is twisted. It turns into one of Ken’s toughest cases ever.

Emotions run high at the small animal wing of the practice when a concerned owner brings in her cat after discovering a lump on his back. Practice director Guy Gordon takes up this case and soon realises it is an urgent situation with difficult decisions to be made.

Vet Rebecca Meyer is called to help out her neighbour who has a tup called Teddy in need of veterinary help. He has huge horns and Rebecca is concerned they could begin to grow into the sheep’s face. She decides a dehorning procedure is the best course of action.

And back at the practice, receptionist Lynda is finding it hard to focus on her duties. Her beloved three-year-old Chihuahua Roo needs dental surgery. Even though experienced vet and friend Margaret Macdonald is looking after Roo, Lynda finds it impossible to settle when she goes under the knife.

The Highland Vet is on Monday at 9pm on 5Select.
