FOOD FOR THOUGHT: By the Rev John Nugent of Wick St Fergus Church

My theme for the next few weeks is “affirmation”.

In particular I want to express my deep admiration for, and appreciation of, the people of this great county for their commitment to their community as evidenced so clearly during lockdown. The efforts made on behalf of others have been herculean. The teeny-tiny minority who have not been so supportive, those who have not respected the welfare of others in the community, have been silenced by everybody else.

This has been achieved simply by people being good neighbours.

It called to mind, for me, something said by Saint Paul in Galatians 6:2 when he wrote: “Bear one another’s burdens and in so doing you fulfil the law of Christ.”

It is not by being a self-righteous, “professionally religious” person that adherence to God (however you conceptualise him) is evidenced. It is by loving your neighbour as yourself. That’s how my boss put it.

So, people of Caithness. You are stars. Please keep on being yourselves. See you next week.
