A BOOKIE has shut its doors in Wick and other branches across Scotland for the final time.

Scotscoup had announced it will cease trading on Thursday but its shop in Bridge Street in Wick has already been vacated.

Speculation had been growing for months about the future of the business after it was rumoured staff had been put on notice in January.

A sign has been posted on the front door of its Wick branch confirming its closure.

Explaining the reasons for its closure, it read: “There have been significant changes within the betting industry over the past few years which have prompted the management to take this action.”

In 2012, Ladbrokes bought 10 Scotscoup betting shops in the north and north-east including its Thurso branch in Traill Street.
