Police control room operator Alison Gunn has made Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) history by becoming the first serving police staff member to receive the force's long service award.

Alison, who works at the Dounreay operational unit, was given the honour to mark her 31 years with the CNC.

She also received an outstanding achievement commendation for her professional contribution to the development of the police control room training programme.

Alison joined the force in August 1989 and was a kennel assistant before becoming a control room operator in 2008. She has since continued to focus on the development of colleagues and she supports the training and assessment of officers and staff.

Her husband, Alistair, and two sons Darren and Liam were at the presentation ceremony along with many of her CNC colleagues as well as Kenny Douglas, Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd (DSRL) managing director, and Mac MacGill, DSRL security and resilience director.

T/Supt Andy Peden presented Alison with both awards and said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be hosting this award ceremony to recognise Alison's length of service and commitment to the organisation. She is an asset to the team and we are all very proud of what she has achieved."

Alison and her family live in Halkirk.
