Former First Minister Alex Salmond will be on the campaign trail in Caithness next week when he attends a pre-election event in Thurso.

The Park Hotel in Thurso is the venue for “An Evening with Alex Salmond” on Thursday, June 20, starting at 7pm.

The Alba Party leader will be joined by panel guests including Steve Chisholm, the party’s candidate for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, and local Highland councillor Karl Rosie.

They will discuss the future of Caithness and Scotland.

Topics are likely to include independence for Scotland, infrastructure and jobs, healthcare, depopulation, education and culture.

Mr Salmond said: “In Steve Chisholm, the people of Caithness have a first-class candidate to vote for at this year’s general election

“His message at this election is clear: independence for Scotland and home rule for the Highlands.

“Alba has demonstrated the seriousness of our intent for the Highlands with the publication of our Highland manifesto.

“This is just one in a series of public meetings where we will be taking this radical, transformative agenda to the people of the Highlands.”

The event is open to all members of the public, with scope for dialogue and questions.
