Scrabster has welcomed its second set of cruise-ship visitors in the space of a few days.

The 71,304-tonne AIDAsol moored in Thurso Bay on Wednesday. Passengers were shuttled onshore and returned later in the day.

The ship, operated by AIDA Cruises, has 1097 cabins and can accommodate some 2200 passengers. It was due to arrive in Lerwick early on Thursday.

The Seabourn Ovation was at Scrabster for more than 11 hours on Sunday.

Harbour trust manager Sandy Mackie said this week there had been some late additions to the 2023 programme, with a potential 21 ships booked to visit. "As ever with cruises, this may alter and will be subject to weather," he pointed out.

The £18.9 million redevelopment of the St Ola pier is helping Scrabster to attract more cruise-ship and offshore energy business.
