Accused put partner inside shipping container
A LOCHABER man nearly made himself sick with worrying he was going to be jailed for securing his partner inside a shipping container.
Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said Russell Stevenson, of Lundavra Road, Fort William, had been suffering greatly before his appearance at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday for sentence after he committed the offence at Brochroy, Dunbeath, last year.
The 57-year-old first offender had earlier pleaded guilty on indictment to conducting himself in a disorderly manner, placing his partner, Jeanna Larsen, in a shipping container and securing her inside and committing a breach of the peace.
The offence happened on an occasion between June 1 and June 30 last year.
Ms MacDonald said reports show there does not appear to be the likelihood of a reoccurrence.

“He was suffering greatly this morning and wanted to be sick as he was positive he was going to jail despite your comments on the last occasion,” she said.
Sheriff Andrew Berry said: “From the way Ms MacDonald describes your physical appearance and presentation, I am reassured that you know the importance of this matter. You haven’t treated this lightly unlike many who think it’s a bit of a laugh and a joke to appear here.
“In the report your partner reflects on matters that it could be regarded as comical. I am not going to describe it as such but that gives me some further reassurance that there is unlikely to be a repeat.
“There seems to be some sort of a relationship between you and there must be no further offending.”
Sentence was deferred to June 24 for Stevenson to be of good behaviour.
