Anne Gunn, president of Spittal SWI, welcomed members to their October meeting.

Anne congratulated members Elizabeth Holman, Ruth Manson and Heather Carberry on winning the recent SWI County Quiz held in Latheron Hall.

She then introduced Beth Douglas, secretary of Bower Young Farmers and vice-chairperson of the North Area Young Farmers. Beth gave an account of her two-week journey to India with the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs. She had never been on a plane before this trip, travelling with 15 other young farmers from throughout Scotland. A highlight was visiting the Taj Mahal.

Beth brought along a curry she had made using spices she took back. She also had some photos which she handed round.

At the annual general meeting held last month, office-bearers were elected as follows: President and treasurer, Anne Gunn; vice-president, Sarah Holman; secretary, Liz Hewitson.

Tea hostess was Heather Carberry and the raffle winner was Margaret Bremner.

Competitions were judged by Beth.

Three bronuts: 1 Liz Hewitson; 2 Linda Levack; 3 Heather Carberry. Fridge magnet: 1 Liz Hewitson; 2 Margaret Bremner; 3 Linda Levack; 4 Anne Gunn.

The meeting was part-funded by the Halkirk District Benefit Fund.
