‘A fantastic trade from start to finish’ – record sheep sale at Quoybrae





Quoybrae, Aberdeen and Northern Marts on Monday sold 2078 sheep.

Old season prime lambs (729) averaged 324p sold to 404.2p per kg and £194 gross for a pen of two 48kg Beltexs from Brae Edge Castletown.

Old season store lambs (868) averaged £110.83 sold to £175.50 for Blue Texels from Mill House, Stainland.

Feeding ewes and rams (481) averaged £153.84 sold to £338 Texel Ewe from Kennachy, Forss.

“A larger show than expected was forwarded today and in return was met by a fantastic trade from start to finish. Ewes in particular were in serious demand with a new centre record set for a pure Texel ewe from Messrs William Bain, Kennachy, Forss which realised £338, and no fewer than 35 ewes exceeded £250.

“Hill Cheviots received the largest increase in value with many selling in excess of £140.”
