WICK Gala Week has been bringing fun, laughter and a lot of colour to the town.

A team of kids from the Step Forward Wick Youth community initiative transformed the riverside boating shed with a striking mural encompassing the town slogan Wick Works Weil.

Gala committee chairwoman Anderina Cass said: "They have done a fantastic job – it looks great. The boating shed is a key attribute for our community in allowing us to hold events throughout gala week.

"Gala week thus far is absolutely fantastic. The community have risen to the weekly occasion and have turned out in their droves to support each and every event."

Another splash of colour was added to Wick riverside on Wednesday afternoon with a Colour Run Fun Day event. Kids and their parents were invited to come along wearing white clothing and plaster each other from head to toe in a different coloured powder as they ran around the park.

The Braehead kids' fancy dress show had a vast range of colourful costumes too with comic book heroes galore. More superheroes were out in force at the riverside on Thursday afternoon as children went on a hunt and were served hot pancakes afterwards.

The photographic exhibition by Janet McDonald in St Fergus Church Hall on Wednesday drew large crowds.

Mrs Cass said: "Without the support of our dedicated volunteers and community, there would be no gala week. All I can say is a great big thank-you to all our volunteers for giving up their precious time and the community for their generosity."
