A clean sweep for Marion at Reiss Gardening Club bulb show

Reiss Gardening Club held its annual bulb show in Reiss and Killimster Hall earlier this month, with a good turnout of members. Entries were slightly down from last year.

The judges were Lorna Swanson, Tister, Anne Gunn, Carsgoe, and Mary Sinclair, Lythmore.

Marion Sutherland, of Granton Mains, was the overall club member and individual winner, having received the most points in the bulb, floral art and baking sections of the show. She was also awarded the best exhibit award for a pot of four daffodils, Large Trumpet.

The club held its AGM while the entries were being judged and the following office-bearers were elected: president, Annette Sinclair; treasurer, Marbelle Sutherland; secretary, Marion Sutherland; programme secretary, Margaret Sinclair.

Reiss Gardening Club normally meets on the first Tuesday of each month.

Results:

Bulb section – Hyacinth in water, yellow: 1 Marion Sutherland; 2 Doris Gunn.

Two hyacinths, pink: 1 Jean Mackay; 2 Marion Sutherland; 3 Margaret Sinclair.

Four daffodils, Large Trumpet: 1 Marion Sutherland; 2 Annette Sinclair; 3 Derry Sinclair.

Three dwarf tulips (members' special class): 1 Marion Sutherland; 2 Isobel Gunn; 3 Carol Place.

Four single tulips (white): 1 Marion Sutherland; 2 Annette Sinclair; 3 Derry Sinclair.

Four double tulips, Peach Blossom: 1 Marion Sutherland; 2 Annette Sinclair; 3 Derry Sinclair.

Ten crocuses: 1 Marion Sutherland; 2 Annette Sinclair; 3 Margaret Sinclair.

Five dwarf narcissi, Tête-à-Tête: 1 Jean Mackay; 2 Marion Sutherland; 3 Margaret Sinclair.

One amaryllis: Jean Mackay.
