Family and friends of a local women who lost her battle with cancer a few years ago have raised the fantastic sum of £1500 for the Marie Curie fundraising group in Wick.
Chairperson of the group Ann Sargent explained that the family of Margaret Forbes was supported by the charity before she passed away.
Mrs Forbes died three years ago and a fundraiser had been planned sometime ago, but Covid stopped it going ahead. A raffle and malt whisky tasting was able to be held in the Nethercliffe Hotel recently to raise money. The hotel kindly donated the venue and snacks on the night to soak up the whisky.
Daughter Alison Duncan, Haster, and her husband George, brother Kenneth and his partner Catriona Macdonald were amazed at the generosity shown from family and friends. A cheque has now been presented to the local Marie Curie fundraising group.
Extending a "big thank you" to the family for raising the money, the local fundraising chairman said their efforts would help raise awareness of the good work the charity does to support patients and families.
Marie Curie is the largest independent provider of end of life care and the largest charitable provider of hospice care beds in Scotland.
