Green-fingered pupils in Dunnet were delighted to receive six prizes from their entries to the Bower Show and Mey and District Gardening Club Show.

The pupils at Crossroads Primary School and Scallywags Early Learning Centre, who had grown vegetables within the school gardens, entered the home-grown vegetables and herbs sections.

They also used their creative flair to pick and put together garden flower displays, both of which received top prizes.

New acting head teacher Lynne Swanson said: “I have been blown away by the facilities at Crossroads Primary School, both the ELC and school have vast garden spaces allowing children to access a range of outdoor learning opportunities, including growing and tending to vegetables.

“The children were very keen to enter the local events and it was a delight to see them receive their prizes.”

The school also received news that they have been successful in securing a grant from Education Scotland’s Food for Thought Fund and are looking forward to spending it on further garden developments.
