An 87-year-old cyclist is on course to complete the Land’s End to John O’Groats journey in 14 days.

Brian Lewis is aiming to arrive between 1pm and 2pm on Saturday after setting off from Bettyhill on the last leg of his 1009-mile challenge.

Brian, from Bicester, Oxfordshire, hopes to set the fastest time from Land’s End to John O’Groats for a person of his age. He previously completed the end-to-end trip at the age of 81.

On Thursday he was cycling from Fort Augustus to Evanton.

Brian is tackling the challenge in memory of his late wife Christine. He is raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, and every one of them needs the best support to meet their unique needs,” Brian says in a message on his JustGiving page.

“Twelve years ago I lost my wife to cancer, after a long battle. With unending support from a Macmillan nurse to our family over many years, and there at our lowest times, we knew we were never alone.”

Brian set off from Land’s End on Sunday, June 8.

The trip is organised and supported through the specialist cycling tour operator Pedal Britain.
