£500 cash donation from Thurso hardware shop to cancer charity

The owners of a popular Thurso hardware store were delighted to hand over £500 in cash to a worthy cause after money from a raffle and collection tin was gathered together.

The Thurso fundraising group of Macmillan Cancer Support expressed its “sincere thanks” to Billy and Margaret Ross from W&D Ross Hardware of Thurso for the generous donation.

The Ross family donated and raffled a garden furniture set and tickets were sold at their hardware shop on Riverside Road. The raffle was drawn on Friday past and the money raised handed over to Sheila Sinclair, secretary of the fundraising group.

A spokesperson for the fundraising group said: “Billy and Margaret have also had a collection tin in the shop for a few years which very regularly needs emptied and has almost always got over £100 in it for the charity.

“This business has been so very generous to Macmillan Cancer Support as it’s a charity that they hold dear to their hearts. They will have raised a few thousand for the charity throughout the years.”

The charity also sent out its gratitude to the people who bought tickets and supported Macmillan Cancer Support.
