A charity walker is attempting to walk from Land's End to John O'Groats in just 30 days to raise awareness of mental health issues and lives lost in the Afghanistan conflict.
Rebecca Howard is organising a fundraiser on behalf of her husband Kheiron who set off from Land's End on July 31 and intends to reach John O'Groats on Aug 31 – that's 30 days of walking, averaging 30 miles a day and he will bed down in a hammock at night.
"Kheiron is dedicating each two miles (roughly) to every individual life that was lost during the Afghanistan campaign," says Rebecca. Kheiron added: "The aim is to raise as much awareness for mental health as possible. If the charity earns money along the way that will be the cherry on the top. The main purpose however is to raise that much needed awareness."
The charity the couple have chosen to support is My Oppo Supporting Families with PTSD which aims to relieve the needs of families of those serving and former members of the Armed Forces who are diagnosed with or who are experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
"My husband has been living with PTSD for seven years and has now made it his life’s purpose to help people who are also struggling. I have set the goal amount at £900 – £30 a day for food/water along the way and any amount that supersedes this will go direct to the charity."
