2020 gets a warm Wick welcome at Hogmanay street party
THE committee behind Wick's Hogmanay celebration had 2020 vision to make it a great night out for all who attended.
Revellers of all ages listened to the countdown that beckoned in the new year with a recording of Big Ben's famous bells.
Allan Farquhar, chairman of the Hogmanay and People's Party Yearly (Happy) committee, said it was a "cracking good night".
He added: "The weather was fine and we had a good crowd of around about 1000."
Local band Penny Lane played a wide selection of songs from across the decades.
Two young pipers, Glenn and Morven Miller from Watten, played traditional Scottish tunes.

"We had a local ex-serviceman, Ronnie Dunnett, say a few words before the bells and do the countdown," Allan said.
"He was recently involved in a charity kayak trip around the coast to raise money for a service charity."
Just over £500 was raised on the night which will go towards next year's event.
The Happy committee, which is a subcommittee of the Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council, has to carry out fundraising throughout the year to come up with the extra money needed to put on the Hogmanay street party.
"It costs around £1200 to host the event so we welcomed the support we got from Wetherspoon, the Crown and Mackays Hotel who contributed to it," Allan said.
The Happy committee is also keen to thank David Steven for the use of a truck for the stage and GMR Henderson for providing crowd barriers.
Allan added: "We could do with more volunteers for next year's event so anyone interested in helping will be greatly welcomed."
