Williamson off to a winning start in Reay winter season

The winter season at Reay is officially up and running, and Willie Williamson was the first player to enter the winners’ enclosure with victory in round one of the North Point Distillery Senior Stableford competition.

A solid round of 90, made up of halves of 42 and 48, was good enough to secure the win on 38 Stableford points. Fred Groves and Mike Halliday shared second place after both finished on 36 points.

An excellent round of 89 for nett 67 gave Alison Ross victory in the women’s October Medal. Birdies at the sixth and 12th helped Sarah Meiklejohn to second place on nett 69 after a fine round of 80.

A steady performance saw Heather Campbell complete the podium places on nett 70.

Murdo Macdonald triumphed in the men’s Parry Trophy after halves of 43 and 45 helped him to a score of 88 for nett 69.

A birdie at the 17th helped Steve Efemey to second place on nett 70 after a round of 83. Halves of 41 saw Willie Steven take third place on countback after a round of 82 also gave him a score of nett 70.

The first round of the Winter League Stableford competition saw some fantastic scoring, with Ronald Matheson taking victory on an impressive 42 points after a birdie at the sixth helped him to a round of 75.

Jimmy Meiklejohn birdied the 13th and 15th on his way to 40 points and second place. Some steady play saw Jack Johnstone take third place on 38 points.

This Saturday the men will be competing in the Nuvia October Medal, while on Sunday the women and men will both be able to play in round two of the Winter League Stableford.
