Wick Groats wary of Castletown danger in David Allan Shield in Thurso on Saturday
Wick Groats manager Kevin Anderson says Caithness Second Division champions Castletown have all the quality of a First Division outfit as the two clubs prepare to face each other in the David Allan Shield final tomorrow.
Second Division champions Castletown, who also won the Steven Cup last weekend, will aim to complete a famous treble at The Dammies in Thurso with kick off at 3pm.
But they will go in as huge underdogs against a Wick Groats team hungry to end the season with silverware.
Wick Groats are looking to bounce back after the 2-1 defeat to High Ormlie Hotspur in the Highland Amateur Cup semi final last Saturday.
Anderson says he understands why people are saying Wick Groats are heavy favourites to win the final.
But he says that people should not forget Castletown knocked out top flight opposition to get to the final.
“Castletown have beaten John O’Groats and Lybster to get to the final,” said Anderson.
“We played them in the Colin Macleod Cup and only beat them 2-1.
“They might have been playing in the Second Division this season, but they play like, and have the quality, of a First Division team.
“But we want to finish the season on a high by winning the Shield and then knuckle down by going on to win the league.”
Castletown manager Tom McKenna was not available for comment at the time of going to press.
In the First Division on Tuesday night, Pentland United defeated High Ormlie Hotspur 5-1 at Ham Park.
Allan Munro, Sam Mackay and Conor Trueman put the Stabbies into a 3-0 lead with Marc MacGregor scoring twice to make it 5-0 before HOH grabbed a consolation.
Wick Thistle and John O’Groats shared the points in a 2-2 draw as both teams fight against relegation.
Lybster remain bottom of the table as they lost 4-2 to Staxigoe United in Wick.
In the Second Division, Thurso Pentland fired themselves into promotion play-off contention as they thrashed Keiss 6-2 at Bayview Park. On Monday, Watten face Keiss with Swifts taking on Top Joes.
