"A JOY to watch" was Wick Academy boss Tom McKenna's verdict after a second-half comeback at Forres secured a point.

Aaron Hamilton and Stuart Soane had put the Can-Cans two up inside an hour in Wednesday night's Highland League clash at Mosset Park only for Academy to come roaring back.

A goalmouth scramble resulted in Ross Allan reducing the deficit before Gordon MacNab's close-range finish ensured Wick headed back north with a 2-2 draw.

What pleased McKenna more than anything was the overall performance which he felt was the best he had seen in a long time.

He said: "At 2-0 down you'd be forgiven for thinking it would be a case of déjà-vu from last season [when Forres beat Wick 4-0].

"We were very competitive before that and we created as many chances as they did in the first half.

"The team we had out was not the tallest and we were doing our best not to give away too many set-pieces. But, sure enough, we did concede a corner which they took full advantage of to take the lead.

The level of performance and the intensity shown by the boys made you feel proud.

"What pleased me, though, was the way the boys kept at it and were very supportive towards each other.

"At half-time we had a good, positive chat only for Forres to hit us with a body blow by getting their second goal.

"That could so easily have worked against us but the boys were outstanding. We absolutely battered Forres after that – they couldn't get out of their own half.

"Ross got one back and then Gordy popped up to bring us level – truth be told, we were a wee bit disappointed that we didn't go on and win it.

"The level of performance and the intensity shown by the boys made you feel proud.

"It has been a long time since I last saw us playing like that – it was a joy to watch."
