WICK Academy are set to agree permanent deals with High Ormlie Hotspur’s James Mackintosh along with Cameron Montgomery and Sean Munro from Pentland United after the Highland Amateur Cup final between the two clubs next weekend.

Cameron Montgomery is one of three players expected to sign.

Manager Gary Manson is confident the trio will sign deals after completing the summer football season with their respective clubs.

The three players will be available for tomorrow’s Highland League clash with Turriff United at Harmsworth Park where they will play as trialists.

Manson is confident he will get the deals for each of the players over the line as he looks to boost his squad for the Highland League campaign.

“Each of them will feature in the squad on Saturday and I hope they will become permanent players after the Highland Amateur Cup final,” he said.

“They are still signed up with their summer clubs, so we are unable to conclude the deals until the amateur season is over.

“I have been looking to get in four or five players from amateur clubs.”

Wick Academy will also be welcoming back to the squad defender Alan Farquhar along with midfielder Alan Hughes and forward Gordon McNab as they prepare to face Turriff United tomorrow.

The Aberdeenshire outfit, who finished second bottom last season, appear to be a much inproved outfit this season.

They have picked up four points from their first three matches, including a 2-1 win against Huntly and a 1-1 draw with Keith.

They also went down to a 2-1 defeat at top of the table Brora Rangers at Dudgeon Park.

Manson says it is a game where they are targeting a victory, but is well aware of Turriff’s decent start to the season.

“It is a game we should be winning, but they have had two good games already and certainly will be no mugs,” said Manson.

“They are all young boys and they play in the right way.

“They have signed striker Aaron Reid from Montrose who is an excellent signing for them and it is going to be a tough game.

“They were a good team last year and the young players they have are now a year older.

“I am expecting them to push up the table from where they finished in second bottom last year.

“I think that they will
definitely finish above four other teams at least.”

Wick Academy have suffered two defeats against last season’s top two, Buckie Thistle and Fraserburgh, as well beating Keith 1-0 in the first three matches.

Manson wanted more points from the first three games, but says performances have been encouraging.

“Three points from the first three games is not great.

“We have to put into context Buckie Thistle and Fraserburgh have been tough places to go at the start of the season. But in the actual performances we have done quite well.”
