Wick co-manager Ian Munro - 'if Academy can get back a level of consistency, they will beat more teams than they will lose to next year.'

Making their chances count is what co-manager Ian Munro is looking for his side to do as the Highland League draws to a close.

A frustrating weekend in Fraserburgh where Wick Academy passed their hosts off the field but still ended up the losing side has been the story of their year.

Heading to Lossiemouth on Saturday, Munro, who is stepping down at the end of the season along with co-boss Richard Hughes, says that he wants to see a killer instinct from his players.

"Our problem this year has been inconsistency," he said. "In the majority of games this season, we have played well in the first 45 minutes only to lose the game in the second half.

"This season, unfortunately, has proven to be a bad one for us.

"Whether that can be attributed to the long lay off during the winter may have been a factor.

"But if Academy can get back a level of consistency, they will beat more teams than they will lose to next year."

During the 2-1 defeat at Bellslea Park, under-17 team members John Mackay and Alan Hughes particularly impressed.

Munro said that the remainder of the season is the perfect chance to give young blood in the squad the chance to prove what they can do.

"We have quality young guys in the squad who can play at first team level," he explained. "Over the next three games we will be looking to give them a lot more playing time to give them the chance to prove themselves.

"Things are looking not too bad at the moment and we look like having a full-strength side to pick from.

"Everyone came through Saturday’s game alright and we’re not expecting any injury worries for the trip at the weekend."

He continued: "Richard and myself have always encouraged attractive, attacking football and we will continue to do that while we are still here."

With three games to go Academy sit in 15th position with 30 points.

Saturday’s defeat at Fraserburgh means the best they can hope to finish is 14th.

They sit one point behind Clachnacuddin who finish their season in Pitmedden against Formartine United on Saturday.

Lossiemouth play their final game of the season against the Scorries after surpassing all expectations.

Currently sitting in 11th place, a win for the home side would land them in the top 10.

Munro said that he has a lot of respect for what manager Charlie Charlesworth has achieved.

"Lossiemouth have done really well this year, finishing in a decent league position," he stated. "As always they’ll be fired up for the game, but we will go down there with a lot of confidence.

"We go into every game believing we can win it and Saturday will be no different. If we play like last Saturday and take our chances we believe we can win."

Charlesworth said that a top-10 finish for the club would cap a good season for Lossiemouth.

He said that they will go into the match against Wick with no intention of holding back.

"Unfortunately, we have picked up a few injuries," he said. "At the moment we only have a squad of 12 players for the match on Saturday.

"A win for us would mean we finish in the top 10. That would be our best finish in years. This game is of special significance to us so we will be going all out for victory.

"Apart from a few rogue results, we’ve had a very good season, especially playing away from home. Hopefully we can cap off the season with a win."

The Coasters boss also paid tribute to Hughes and Munro.

"I am looking forward to seeing them both again on Saturday," he explained. "I have known both guys for a number of years and have a great relationship with them.

"It is sad that they are resigning at the end of the season as they have done a fantastic job up there."
